Judy Marie Quattrin
Retired instructor at California State University, Sacramento and founding member of the Recreation, Parks and Leisure Hall of Honor.
Judy Quattrin was raised in Southern California and attended Sacramento State University earning a Bachelor’s of Science Degree, Recreation Administration and a Master’s of Science in Recreation and Leisure Studies. Her career began at Camarillo State Hospital in recreation therapy as a student professional assistant and continued as recreation supervisor for the Fulton-El Camino Recreation and Park District, Sacramento County. In 1971, she was recruited to teach a social recreation class at Sacramento State and from then on, she was “hooked “ … a career in education was her passion.
She continued teaching at Sacramento State, part-time and full-time, in what is known today as the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism, within the College of Health and Human Services, and retired in 2001. Upon her retirement, the College of Health and Human Services established the Judy M. Quattrin, Community Recreation Student Scholarship for Recreation, Park and Tourism students. In addition to her teaching classes, Judy was Coordinator, of the CSUS Capital University Service Corps/AmeriCorps. As Faculty Coordinator of Student Activities for the College of Health and Human Services- Rancho Cordova Interdisciplinary Clinical Education Project, she participated in the Rancho Cordova Community Partnership, 1998-2001 and was a service learning instructor.
Judy was the faculty advisor of the Recreation and Park Majors Association and a co-curricular activities instructor for the University Spirit leaders. She was a senator in the CSUS Academic Senate and a member of the Committee on Diversity and Equity. Judy has been a member of the Advisory Council for the CSUS College of Health and Human Services and the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism. She has served on the J. R. Needy Foundation Board from 1985-2010. Judy is an associate author of Perspectives on Leisure and Community, Perspectives on Leisure: Toward a Quality Lifestyle, Kendall/Hunt Publishing Co., 2001, 2008.
In 1997-98, Judy was awarded the CSUS President’s Award for Excellence in Fostering Capital Region/ Partnerships. She was recognized as the recipient of the CSUS Meritorious Performance and Professional Award, Superior Contribution to Instruction, 1998. In 2003, Judy received the Distinguished Service Award, Faculty and Administrator Category, awarded by the Sacramento State Alumni Association. Upon her retirement, Judy served on the CSUS President’s Operation 2010 Board of Directors and on the CSUS President’s Community Council. She was a member of the Exploratory Committee to establish the Recreation, Parks and Leisure Hall of Honor and was the Chair in 2009-2010.
In 2004, Judy assembled a dedicated group of recreation and park professionals committed to preserving the rich history of the parks and recreation agencies, professionals, programs, and volunteers within the greater Sacramento area. The Hall of Honor, later the Partnership for Quality Living, emerged from the collective efforts of this group. The Hall of Honor was accepted by the California Park and Recreation Society District 2, which financially supports the program and continues to be a prominent sponsor to this day. In 2007, the inaugural class of Hall of Honor inductees was honored.
