Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary
City of Folsom
Six and a half acre nature education facility with the mission, "Teaching Responsible Behavior Towards All Animals."
Operated by the City of Folsom since 1963, the Zoo features a sanctuary for over 90 mostly non-releasable rescued native, domesticated and exotic animals.
The City, local service clubs and private donors joined in a community effort and in 1963, the Folsom City Zoo opened on a two acre site at its current location in Folsom City Lion's Park.
The collaborative efforts of hundreds of people have enabled the Zoo to fund a wide range of critical projects: The Friends of the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary, local Veterinarians, food suppliers, Folsom Animal Control Services, local rescue organizations, Sacramento Valley Veterinary Medical Association, the Dyer Family Foundation, Wendy P. Macaw Foundation, Ikea, Intel Harvego Foundations, Bosack Kruger Foundation, County Supervisor Roger Niello and the late Senator Dave Cox.
In 2013, the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary, will celebrate 50 years of providing quality recreation and leisure opportunities as well as environmental education to the nearly two million residents of the greater Sacramento region.
Today the Zoo is recognized as one of the City's finest resources and a local/regional tourist attraction. Annually it attracts more than 130,000 patrons through its gates and reaches an additional 125,000 through its outreach programs, camps, classes, tours and corporate rentals.
Awards include: 2012 TripAdvisor's Certificate of Excellence among TripAdvisor travelers global business community; 2012 Best of the Best Family Activity, The Folsom Telegraph and the El Dorado Hills Telegraph; 2007 Reader's Choice, Folsom/El Dorado Hills Style.
